John Garrido for Cook County Board President

GUIDING PRINCIPLES OF MY CAMPAIGN:

There needs to be a common sense approach to managing our government.

County government is top heavy; instead of laying off employees that are actually doing all the work, we should take a hard look at consolidating upper management.

Leading by example, I would take a 10% pay cut once elected.

Our hiring and promotion process benefits only the well connected. Quality employees are regularly overlooked in favor of unqualified friends and family members.

Taxes; that’s easy. At a time when we are struggling the most, our government hits us with high taxes. Our collar counties have a stimulus package called “Cook County”. We are losing businesses, jobs and revenue due to the inability of our elected officials to manage county government. It’s a perpetual cycle that needs to stop. We need to lower taxes to increase revenue that will in turn attract more businesses and jobs.

We desperately need term limits in Cook County. If it’s good enough for the President of the United States, it should be good enough for local government. Some may argue that an election is a term limit. Unfortunately, money and patronage hiring see to it that the playing field tilts in favor of the wealthy and connected. Term limits will limit political power, reduce corruption and force politicians to put the interests of the people before their own.

Cook County needs a fresh start and with
your help, we will make that happen.
